The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at Binbrook Conservation Area on July 1.
Two separate and unrelated water-related incidents took place at the conservation area. Tragically, one involved the death of a 64-year-old kayaker. Our heartfelt condolences are with the individual’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
A second incident involved the search for a missing 7-year-old boy, who was later recovered deceased. Our thoughts are with the child’s family and everyone affected by this devastating loss.
Incidents like these have a profound impact on everyone involved. At NPCA, we do not take situations like this lightly. Beyond our role as stewards of conservation areas, we are also members of the communities we serve, and our thoughts remain with the families, first responders, our staff, and everyone affected.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Hamilton Police Service, Hamilton Paramedic Service, Hamilton Fire Department, Peel Regional Police, Ontario Provincial Police, and all emergency responders for their professionalism and dedication throughout this difficult situation. We are equally grateful to our team at Binbrook Conservation Area, whose compassion, professionalism, and support have been invaluable during these challenging circumstances.
Binbrook Conservation Area remains closed July 2 and July 3.
