The Niagara Peninsula Source Protection Authority is pleased to announce the appointment of April Jeffs as Chair of the Niagara Peninsula Source Protection Committee (SPC) by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.
Jeffs brings extensive experience in public service and governance to the role. She currently serves as a Senior Government Relations Advisor at Brock University, providing strategic advice on public policy and stakeholder engagement. Throughout her career, she has held several leadership positions across Niagara, including Mayor of the Township of Wainfleet, Niagara Regional Councillor, and Chair and Vice-Chair of the Niagara Parks Commission. She is well-versed in the SPC’s work, having previously served on the boards of the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority and Source Protection Authority, giving her an understanding of the committee’s mandated role in protecting local drinking water sources through collaborative, science-based solutions.
The Drinking Source Water Protection Program was established by the Government of Ontario under the Clean Water Act, 2006, creating a framework for multi-stakeholder committees to develop science-based assessment reports and local source protection plans. Supported by Source Protection Authorities, these committees are comprised of staff from municipalities, conservation authorities, industry, and provincial agencies, and together guide and coordinate protection efforts across the province.
